Jerk

“Selfishness—self-centeredness! That, we think, is the root of our troubles.” (Page 62, Big Book)

I used to have terrible depression and anxiety. I thought these were the primary condition and sought solutions on that basis. It turns out they were symptoms of another condition: selfishness. I was grumpy, gloomy, bossy, touchy, vain, and spoiled. There’s no potion for being a jerk. As the character defects were whittled down, their symptoms abated.
