“What am I looking for? Help and enlightenment! Will I find it if I am only looking for flaws in others?” (ODAT, 27 March)
Sometimes, situations arise where someone does something genuinely wrong, inappropriate, or silly. One, of course, notices this.
When I catch myself noticing three things in a row that are wrong, inappropriate, or silly, I find that I’m sieving for such things: the sensor is attuned to things to find fault with.
I am usually unaware that this is the case, as I haven’t made a positive decision to be captious, but, if observation after observation is cavilling, I check and adjust the settings.
