Of myself and other animals

“If I say ‘Of myself I can do nothing,’ I am asserting that I intend to seek help.” (ODAT, 4 January)

If it were true that I can do nothing, the phrase ‘of myself’ would be redundant.

Therefore, the doing of something requires not only my cooperation but my doing of everything I can do.

The dishes don’t wash themselves.

I must wash them.

I do not recovery by myself

But I do recover my self—and I use my self to recover.

The self I recover is the agency I have denied, shifting the blame onto all else around me.

Once that self is activated, God doubles the stake and takes me over the finish line.

There’s a solution to every problem, and that solution starts with me, making use of the assistance of the literature, of meetings, of others, of service, but chiefly of God.

Without God, I can’t. Without me, He won’t.
