Brilliant. Recovery starts with the observation that, if I lose my poise and cheer, something has gone badly wrong, not in my life, but in me. Something has happened that is not part of the day God had planned for me, and that something has happened in my consciousness.
In choosing self, I choose unhappiness, affront, grief.
