Apprehension

“to learn … not to be apprehensive” (ODAT, 8 January)

How do I learn this?

Not by analysis but by practising trust.

God says, “Trust me!”, and I either agree with this or I disagree with this.

That’s a question of authority: do I recognise God’s authority to say that?

If I do, that’s the end of apprehension.

When I’m apprehensive, I’m saying I know better than God.

The problem is then revealed not to be fear but arrogance.

The first time one trusts is tricky.

But the more one does this, the more experience backs this up, and the easier it gets.
