“… worries about matters that cannot be altered” (ODAT, 6 December)
The matter—as it stands—cannot be altered, but the matter as it extends into the future can.
The question is by whom?
If I have a role, God—if asked—will show me.
If not, then the matter is not of my concern.
But more important than all of this is the principle that only what is temporary can be damaged; what is permanent cannot. What is temporary is of transient significance; what is permanent is what matters.
My spirit is permanent and so cannot be harmed. If I hold that to be the only really important thing in my life, then I’m safe from whatever happens in the world.
In any case, even at the material level, God will be with me, so whatever happens I will be shown how to respond to the situation with usefulness, cheerfulness, and poise.
