It is possible that we have no moral obligations, and that we are enjoined to be selfish and disregard the interests of others.
I think this unlikely.
The writer in question might not have any obligation and be devoid of moral responsibility, even to God, but I do have an obligation: to carry the message, to pay back by paying forward.
