“the challenge to apply the program to every department of life” (ODAT, 8 December)

Since the programme requires me to apply it to every department, that’s what I’ve had to do, even in those areas that appear to have nothing to do with Al-Anon: food, sleep, exercise, competent financial management, relationship with media and social media, etc.

It turns out the programme is not just a nice set of spiritual ideas but a system that can bring discipline, moderation, orderliness, self-control, awareness, deliberateness, nobility (in both the ordinary and the chemical sense: non-reactiveness), and other characteristics to all areas.

If there are other areas where I am acting impulsively, compulsively, rashly, peremptorily, recklessly, negligently, thoughtlessly, carelessly, incompetently, lazily, automatically, like a sleepwalker, or with disregard for my own good and that of others, there’s a lot of work to do.
