“If we’re concentrating on dark thoughts about our own problems, we could be missing something that might help us overcome them.” (ODAT, 12 November)
If I discern a situation that requires a response, and I give it a preliminary review, I’ll usually see precisely what needs to be done, who I need to ask, or how I need to research. Almost every situation in life falls into this category.
A problem is a situation where I do not know what to do or I do not know how to look at it differently in order to be OK with it. I then resist it and dwell on its unacceptability or awfulness, injuring myself by replaying or preplaying it.
A problem is by nature something I cannot solve and therefore requires me not to think about it.
I have to get out of God’s way.
God can only get in there with the mental pliers, clippers, and soldering iron to adjust the wiring if I steer clear.
The more important something is, the more important it is
that I do not think about it.
