“It often happens that a person from whom they least expect spiritual insight will make a statement that reaches directly to the heart of the hearers, to give light and comfort and hope.” (ODAT, 16 October)
This is why I like meetings with a range of people rather than a self-selected group of people who have rather a lot in common. When everyone stands out like a sore thumb, the sore-thumb-ness ceases to be such, and one’s left simply with a bewildering array of individually interesting people. This overcomes an awful lot of prejudice one has, without one having to try. Moreover, it soon becomes clear that wisdom is not picky and can reside anywhere, which means I have to listen to what everyone is saying.
