“God will take a hand in my life if I ask for His guidance, and keep myself receptive to indications of His will for me. Before Al-Anon I took too much on myself in trying to engineer solutions. Now I know I can only make right decisions by referring my problems to Him.” (ODAT, 4 July)
Whenever I perceive something as a problem, I have to drop it immediately. This does not mean pretending it is not there and certainly does not mean doing nothing. It means dropping it so it can rise up naturally to where it belongs, with God. Then God instructs me what to do, and I do it.
My historical response to problems was to jump out of the ship with a rope and swim hard, trying to pull the ship in the direction I wanted it to go.
Instead, I ask God what to do, and God instructs me on adjusting the position of the rudder and trimming the sail. The wind and currents do the rest.
