Al-Anon Q: What if the alcoholic has no one else? I feel I cannot walk away.

If I ‘feel’ something, that is not a sign that it is true.

As in geometry or geography, one does not ‘feel’ what is true: one establishes what is true through the application of observation, knowledge, principle, reason, authority, consultation, and, where applicable, intuition (whether logical or moral).

I wasn’t supporting the alcoholic at all: I was supporting them in their addiction.

If the ship is going down it makes no sense for all hands to go down with the ship.

If they want to get well, there are resources and organisations available.

If they do not avail themselves of these resources and organisations and do precisely what they’re told, they do not want to get well, and I am relieved of any obligation.

I am not obliged to die with them.
