“Would I stand on the seashore and, like King Canute of the ancient legend, try to command the tides?” (ODAT, 8 April)
I seem to have an inbuilt interest in tides—things I can’t
control (others, situations, the world itself).
This is why I leave such matters to others, and stay away
from domains of discourse about others, situations, and the world itself.
I have enough to do with this:
“I will devote myself to overcoming my flaws of character
and controlling my impulsive words and actions.” (ODAT, 8 April)
Without God I am powerless over my thoughts, words, and
actions.
God is the source of direction of power.
With God, control can be acquired of thoughts, words, and
actions.
Thus I can bring my small corner in line with God’s will.
