It ain't personal

If you have decided you want what we have and are willing to go to any length to get it—then you are ready to take certain steps.

Note: what we have. Not what I have.

It is the shared attainment of physical sobriety and satisfactory living that must be the object. When I want only what one person has I am guilty of idolatry. If only one person has the solution, if only one person knows, if only one person understands, I am guilty not of idolatry of another but of myself: I am really idolising my own superior intellect and its ability to single out the one, right repository of my faith.
