Getting back on track

Sometimes I find myself wildly off track.

Here's a simple way to get back on track.

Firstly, list troublesome areas, e.g.

  • Sleep
  • Diet
  • Exercise
  • Work
  • Spending
  • Savings / investments / pension scheme
  • Tradition Seven (earning more than spending)
  • Being a sponsee
  • Being a sponsor
Others might include:

  • Marriage
  • Sexual 'impurity' (= acting out)
  • Housework
  • Service at meetings
  • Other service
  • Relationships with colleagues
  • Relationships with friends
  • Relationships with parents
  • Relationships with children
  • Hobbies

God's will is usually no great mystery. Ask God, area by area:

Give me up three to five things to start doing / stop doing / do differently.

Keep it simple. Keep it basic.

E.g.

Diet

  • Eat three meals a day
  • Stay off sugar
  • Each meal: 50% vegetables
Being a sponsor

  • Return texts / message / calls within 24 hours
  • Pause before answering the phone
  • Pray for patience, tolerance, kindness, and love during calls
  • Don't be frightened to challenge
  • Encourage

The daily plan

Each day, follow pages 86 to 88 of the Big Book. Write out a plan for the day (including timings, where relevant, and the tasks to be accomplished). Maybe split between 'vital', 'necessary', and 'if there is time'.

Each day, review the seven days ahead, as well, to give yourself a heads-up about what's heading your way and to make sure you're on track with targets, deadlines, and generally staying on top of things.

Maybe do the plan the night before so you can hit the ground running in the morning.

Maybe run the plan past someone else.

Incorporate the objectives from the troublesome areas above to turn them from pipedreams into reality.

Ask God for direction and strength every step of the way.
