There's a reason why, in the Liturgy of the Hours, the following is said seven times a day:
O God, make speed to save us.
O Lord, make haste to help us.
It is arguably because the individual gets so far off track in a few hours that helping and saving are required.
It is as though we are idiot children, incapable of looking after ourselves even for a brief spell..
I, at any rate, very badly need God to guide me and give me strength.
