Your Time Is Up: Put Your Pens Down

Yesterday, we asked this:

Imagine you get a few hours off work to do with as you please. What would you do?

Make a list of five things you would do.

Then we'll pick this up tomorrow.

Are your first thoughts:

  • Spiritual reading or listening? Prayer? Meditation? Contemplation? Time with God? Overdue stepwork?
  • Going to a meeting? Carrying the message?
  • Performing acts of service within one's twelve-step fellowship?
  • Performing acts of service in the world?
  • Being in nature, with animals, with children, with family, with friends?
  • Playing music? Painting? Other creativity or something genuinely nourishing?

What was associated with these possibilities? Guilt and obligation, or untrammelled joy?

Or was something else on the cards?

What am I after?

Money? Security? Achievement? Comfort? Power? Prestige? Self-satisfaction?

Or awakening from the nightmare? Appreciation of God's created universe? Annihilation of self? Dissolution into service? Unity with others?
