Teaching

A common idea is that 'we were taught in childhood that ...', and this apparently explains some adult trait, for instance not asking for help, not talking about feelings, etc.

As a child, I was taught that excessive drinking, smoking, fornication, lying, stealing, and many other behaviours were wrong, yet I ignored that teaching and proceeded to drink, smoke, fornicate, lie, and steal. It appears that I cannot attribute my actions to teaching. If I was capable of ignoring some teachings, I was capable of ignoring any teachings. If I followed teachings, it is because I chose to.

There is no one to blame.
