Why do the Steps have to be done quickly?
We're building a fortress out of bricks, to keep us safe. As we place each brick, the ego attempts to remove a brick. If we build fast enough, the ego's removal of bricks cannot keep pace, and the fortress gets built. Below a certain pace, the ego simply removes every brick that is added, and nothing is achieved.
