'We can exercise our will power along this line all we wish. It is the proper use of the will.' (Step Ten, Big Book)
Marcus Aurelius uses the phrase doing your duty with a will. God will do for me what I cannot do for myself but won't do for me what I can do for myself. If I can't, He will. If I can, He won't.
Nothing wrong with dedication, willpower, etc. What matters is when and how I use it. The energy I have been given has been given to me for a reason and must be channelled or it turns in on me and eats me alive. It must be pointed outwards, directed by God. God provides the water pressure and tells me where to point the fire hose. I just have to point it as directed.
What's the fire? Attachment. What's the water? Correction. What's the process? Forgiveness.
