Qualifiers and motivators

I used to use the phrase 'my qualifier(s)' to denote the person(s) on account of which I started to attend Al-Anon. It's become fashionable to recast that as 'my motivator(s)'.

A couple of problems with this.

Firstly, it's all still about them (it's not).

Secondly, it reinforces possession and linkage: 'my qualifier'; 'my thyroid'; 'my gerbil'.

The detachment has not yet taken place.
