If I drank because of X, if I fix the X, I won't drink.
However, fixing Xs does not stop alcoholics returning to the first drink.
I drank because my brain was programmed to override my decision-making faculties and induce me to drink.
IT WAS NOT A RATIONAL PROCESS.
This is the same with any addictive process. It's not rational. The brain may present the mind with a rationalisation, but it's not rational, because there is no problem that is solved by active addiction.
