'God-why-don't-you-love-me-oh-you-do-I'll-see-you-later'

... is one of the lines from Sondheim's 'Follies' ('Buddy's Blues', specifically).

I learned to play this game in childhood, and then continued it, unfortunately, as an adult. This is how I performed it:

1. (In which I performed 'B')

Person A and B are friends. Person A initiates almost all of the contact. Person B responds but rarely if ever initiates. Person A tires of this and withdraws in part or in full. Person B does not initiate but now feels rejected and complains of 'abandonment'.

2. (In which I performed 'sponsee')

Person A ('sponsee') is being sponsored by person B ('sponsor'). Sponsor sets up schedule of calls with sponsee. Sponsee agrees. Sponsor is available but sponsee does not comply with the schedule. Sponsor tires of this and withdraws offer. Sponsee bombards sponsor with attempts to reestablish the relationship they did not show up for.
