Anger, fear, and guilt are road signs. Anger tells me something has happened that (in my opinion) should not have. Fear tells me something might happen that should not. Guilt tells me I have done something I should not have. Road signs give me information, which I then act on (or not). I do not have to stop the car, dismantle the road sign, and find a space for it in my car. Firstly, that does not serve any purpose. Secondly, it impedes effective driving. Thirdly, it is extremely uncomfortable.
Resentment, anxiety, and shame are anger, fear, and guilt that have been purloined and pocketed.
