Unmanageability (in a nutshell)

Left to my own devices, the impulse to drink overwhelms me and I drink, and when I drink, I drink excessively. When that's the case, I'm not in charge of my life: the impulse to drink is.

Powerlessness entails unmanageability.

Powerlessness is my condition—unmanageability is the consequence.

Some well-organised, competent, and balanced people are powerless over alcohol, and their lives are therefore unmanageable.
