Step Six in a nutshell

Defects are beliefs, thinking, and behaviour that do not work.

Are the defects (from Steps 4 and 5) objectionable?

If we’re being rational, the answer is ‘yes’.

The solution is to adopt new beliefs, thinking, and behaviours (virtues).

Block 1: the perceived benefit from the defects.

Resolution: the drawback is greater.

Block 2: perceived drawback from the virtues.

Resolution: the benefit is greater.

Block 3: the process of substitution is painful.

Resolution: the pain is temporary.
