How to thrive under pressure

If it’s not necessary, vital, or mission critical, don’t do it.

Necessary is what has to be done.
Maybe that’s your daily work or other chores.
Maybe that’s playing the piano.

Vital is what has to be done, but with particular urgency or importance.
Maybe that’s phone calls, placing orders, buying food.

Mission critical is that without which nothing else is possible.
Maybe that’s praying, meditating, resting, relaxing, sleeping, eating well, talking to key people.

Social media.
Is it really necessary?
Maybe log in once or twice a day to check postings by helpful people or pages.
Otherwise: restraint of pen, don’t engage; if it upsets you, unfollow.
Severely cap usage.
If you want human contact, call someone or join an online meeting.

The news and the media more generally.
Are they really necessary?
Maybe dip in for a daily briefing.
Maybe dip in for notification of precautions or restrictions.
Then get the hell out of Dodge.
Don’t get sucked in.

Incoming calls and phone notifications.
Are really they necessary?
Maybe. But all day long?
Consider establishing periods where the phone and email are turned off.
Consider establishing specific device-checking times.
No one needs to be permanently on call.

Follow Don P’s advice:
Go slowly.
Rest often.
Claim the power to work miracles in people’s lives.
Everything in order.
Go slowly ...
... from duty to duty.
Rest and pray ...
... between duties.
