“The power to reason can be dulled when we fail to detach ourselves from the emotional content of a problem.” (ODAT, 3 February)
In sponsorship:
- I convey content: the ideas and actions and how to take them.
- I make observations about material brought to me. But no delving.
- I apply the programme to situations presented as though they’re case studies.
- I keep my boundaries.
This means that I don’t get personally involved. I’m a dispassionate provider of a service. No entanglement.
The responsibility and liability for someone’s recovery lies with them, not me. I can provide a roadmap and make back-seat observations, but the other person is doing the driving, and if they crash, that’s them not me.
This keeps everyone safe.
