Function and reality

“Is not our age characterized by the ease with which we discard old ideas for new, by the complete readiness with which we throw away the theory or gadget which does not work for something new which does?” (Page 52, Big Book)

If you’re navigating through territorial waters to a port, and there are perils such as shallows, shoals, reefs, etc., if you (a) have a good map and (b) navigate in accordance with it, you will navigate safely.

If you hit something, you ask yourself firstly whether you navigated in accordance with the map. If you did, there is a problem with the map.

When living according to the self-centred and materialist outlook and philosophy, one collides constantly with reality, fails to reach satisfactory destinations, and generates considerable unhappiness.

When living according to the God-centred and spiritual outlook and philosophy, one navigates reality without collision, reaches satisfactory destinations, and generates considerable happiness.

Presuming one is living consistently in accordance with one’s system, one can therefore draw conclusions about whether the map accords with reality.

If one lives successfully, and collision-free, the map must be held to accurately reflect reality.

I therefore conclude that the metaphysical realm is real, God is real, God is powerful, God is good, God has a purpose and a role for me, and God will look after me if I seek that purpose and discharge that role. This, I conclude, is reality.

I also conclude that the materialist’s view of reality is quite wrong.
