Fishing for pleasure

“These men had found something brand new in life. Though they knew they must help other alcoholics if they would remain sober, that motive became secondary. It was transcended by the happiness they found in giving themselves for others.” (Page 159)

Passer-by: What fish are you fishing for?

Fisherman: I’m not fishing for fish; I’m fishing for pleasure.

It’s not about the outcome; the process is the point.

If I asked God for help with my book of sudoku puzzles, I would not be pleased to discover that all of the puzzles had been solved. That would ruin the game.

If you could give me a pill that made me feel better without me having to change my beliefs, thinking, or behaviour, I would not take it.

If I picked up the ball and placed it in the goal, the game I’m playing is not football.
