Untoward and froward

“My mother taught me, when I was a little girl, that when anything very dreadful happens, I must think of what I would be doing if it had not happened, and then do that.” (ODAT, 3 May)

If nothing happens, I’ll read my book.

If something happens, I’ll read my book.

As the plane takes off, I’ll read my book.

As it plummets, I’ll read my book.

I might as well make the most of the time to impact.

I really need not be upset at disagreeable things: I will be agreeable in the face of them.

It is that choice that represents the ultimate victory over untoward circumstances and froward people.
