Nobodies

“We come in as nobodies—and we desperately want to be somebody.” (ODAT, 13 May)

I don’t know about that.

A nobody wouldn’t try and control others.

A nobody would not be upset, because to be upset is to have an opinion about how things should be, and to find the world at odds with that opinion, and nobodies do not have opinions.

A nobody would have no character defects.

A nobody would have no one to make amends to.

Who did the behaviour if not me, if not the somebody?

No, I was somebody; that was the entire problem.

My job is to become nobody. To detach. To surrender my life to God and be an actor on his behalf. The actor becomes nobody in order to fulfil the role given.
