The ‘other’ could be society, the world, humanity, or some particular constituency thereof. There’s nothing more tiresome and tiring than taking up causes. I’m sure it’s good for some people to do so, but not me. I get attached and entangled too easily.
A lot of fighting for causes can be the working out of one’s own psychology through the external situation.
In any case, I appear to be built only to handle my life.
If I’m only handling my life, everything feels as light as a feather.
If it feels more than that, I’m handling something that’s not mine.
