“At meetings there were usually plenty of horror stories about what the alcoholics said and did, and detailed descriptions of sufferings.” (ODAT, 17 March)
I’ve prefaced narrations of my week with something like, ‘I’ve had a tough week’ or ‘I’m facing a horrible situation’.
If the frame is a frame of horror, whatever I place inside it is contextualised as part of a horror show. A nice bunch of tulips in the middle of a horror film does not render the horror film otherwise.
If I frame what happens in a frame of trusting God and relying on God, everything placed inside that frame is seen as part of the greater narrative of everything being carefully guided by God towards a perfect resolution.
