Peel me a grape

“I will not look to others to do my work for me while I’m “too busy” or “too tired” to do my reading and attend meetings and keep in touch with my fellow members. Al-Anon can do much for me, but I must help, too.” (ODAT, 14 February)

In the past, I have disingenuously adopted a position of fake ignorance or incompetence and asked others to do for me what I’m perfectly capable of doing myself, and I’ve then got huffy when they push back. But they were right to push back.

I can ask others to help only with what I can do for myself.

And I discover that, with patience, industry, and detachment I can generally figure out what the programme response is to any situation I find myself in.

I don’t outsource, and I don’t let others outsource to me.

I go to others when I can go no further under my own steam.
