“When violent quarrels take place in the home, both partners fail to realize that their intense involvement with each other can destroy what should be a sacred relationship.” (ODAT, 17 February)
Counterintuitively, good relationships require separateness,
detachment, privacy, discretion, circumspection, selectiveness.
When I have my own, self-contained, God-reliant life, not
dependent on anyone, not entangled with anyone, I am in a position to extend
freely into the common space of the relationship.
If someone else is similarly secure, we can have an
excellent relationship.
