The excessive desire of knowing

“Leave off that excessive desire of knowing; therein is found much distraction. There are many things the knowledge of which is of little or no profit to the soul.” (ODAT, 20 July)

There is just enough time to figure out what needs to be figured out and just enough time to do what needs to be done in my immediate life.

No time for figuring out him, her, or it beyond the scope of my actual work, beyond the scope of my very small hula hoop.

A small life: that’s the ideal.

Not one that sprawls.

And no purpose, either, in all of this figuring out.

I’m still left with me, and what to do with the day.

Getting answers to the ‘why’-questions is little help in figuring out my duties and certainly does not provide the oomph to perform those duties.

I really can leave everything be: it is as it is, and it is in accordance with God’s will.
