The hard thing about trusting God is trusting the voice of God speaking directly, through conscience, through others, through texts, through observations, in the three available forms: inspiration, an intuitive thought, a decision.
One must simply go with this.
There is no alternative.
Terrible mistakes will be made, but the real terrible mistake is to continue in self to avoid such terrible mistakes.
If a terrible mistake is made, it will be obvious: then admit it promptly and correct it.
Short of improper disclosure or amputation, pretty much any bad decision can be reversed.
