The job is to reject self, reject individualism, reject materialism, reject hedonism, reject the world and, instead, put 100% in with God. Then, one is sent back down into the appearance of the individual, with a particular job to do, into the material world, with its pleasures and horrors. Except now, no longer is there an attachment.
